Dual Immersion Parent Meeting, Tuesday, Nov. 1

Dual Immersion Parent Meeting
What a fun afternoon.  I was so proud of Khin for preparing a 5-question quiz about Burma and then singing a beautiful song in Ruwang.  My part was to cook shrimp fried rice and make nam pla (spicy fish sauce).  Every grain of rice was consumed.  Even Sra. Mendoza said the presentation/food was a great hit.
Another highlight was learning how to make a piñata.  First we blew up a balloon and then placed strips of newspaper dipped in starch around the balloon.  We were directed to put three layers of paper around the balloon and then wait for it to dry.   Then we were given supplies to continue the project at home.  We are to bring our completed piñata to the next meeting scheduled for February.  Another mom shared about music from Zacatecas.  It sounds like music played with brass instruments and the drum.  It’s played for special occasions like weddings, quinceneras and other parties.
the company's version of Zacatecas is based on the state's incredible and peculiar musical style: Tamborazo Zacatecano (The Zacatecas Big Drum band). This Wind and percussion instruments band is reminiscent of European ensembles left behind by the revolutionary movement of 1910.She also made a salad made of nopales. I have seen the cactus in the store but have never bought it because I don’t know how it is prepared.  The nopales looked like a green bean salad.
