The Other Side of the 91 Freeway

After school on Thursday there was a fundraiser at Yogurt Puff on McKinley about half a mile from the school.  We all stopped by to support our school.  While eating our “ice cream”, we started talking to one of the PTA representatives who attended the function to assure a hassle-free experience.  I asked the PTA member about hosting a fundraiser at the Chick-fil-A off of Hidden Valley (about 5 miles from the school).  She said that transportation would be an issue and probably wouldn’t be well attended.  It hit me at that moment that we live only three miles away from the school, but there is a vast difference in economic levels.  Many of the students are walked to school by their parents or guardians.  When we cross the 91 freeway to the other side of the 91, we are, in essence, crossing a border.  My heart longs to help build this community of Home Gardens.
